Picking a Good Tattoo Design
Whether you're getting your first tattoo or you're almost covered, finding a good design can be the hardest part of the process. It's easy to pick a design you like off the wall but how can you be sure you'll like it a few years later? There are a couple things to consider when picking out a new tattoo design:
1. Does your tattoo design work well as a tattoo?
Consider the size you want it to be and where you want to place it. Do you think it will look as good there as it does on paper or should you resize it or put it somewhere else? Will you be able to clearly see the design when it's a tattoo? All tattoos fade and blur a little after many years, something that can ruin tiny intricate details. Does it flow well on your body?
2. Is your tattoo design meaningful?
It's easy to pick a "cool looking" tattoo just because you think it's neat but the novelty will wear off before too long and you may no longer be happy with it. However, if your tattoo is cool looking AND meaningful then chances are you will grow to like it more and more over the years.
3. Do you absolutely love your design?
You should love your design, you should be excited about it and feel "Yes! This is my tattoo!" Can you imagine yourself with it in different situations? Do you already know what you'll say when someone asks you about it?
It's usually a good idea to look at a lot of tattoo designs before you even set foot in a shop or parlor. Even if you don't see exactly what you want then at least you will have a good idea for a custom design. There are many great resources for finding tattoo designs on the internet, these site are great because if you find something you really do like then you can download the tattoo and print out both the design and the stencil to bring to your artist!
One of the best and most popular sites for searching through tattoo designs is PrintMyTattoo.com They have over 7,000 unique designs for you to look through from all sorts of categories. The best part about this site is that the tattoo designs on PrintMyTattoo.com are fresh and haven't been posted on hundreds of websites. Remember, you want your design to be unique, you don't want the same tattoo hundreds of other people have!
I hope this little guide was helpful, I'm positive that if you consider the three things I mentioned you will always end up with a tattoo design you not only love now but will love more and more in the coming years.
